To us books are words on pages. Some are confusing and some display a picture in our mind. As that book goes on then the pictures mentally become a movie inside our mind. If we thoroughly enjoy it, then the movie will make sense. A couple years ago I honestly hated books. I thought that reading was a waste a time. BUT!!!! I saw this book called "Running Out Of Time." The cover of it got me interested. Interested enough to start reading it. Two days later, I had finished the book and started to give books another chance because this book was AMAZING! It's a great mystery story that's not very long, not even 200 pages. It's about a girl who lives in a town where everything is in the 1800s. A disease strikes the town and Jesse is sent on a perilous journey to get help before it's too late. If it wasn't hard enough, she discovers a world of 1996. Things get really suspensful after that. If you have already read it, then you know it's a great read, and for those of you that haven't, READ IT!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes it's hard to find a good book, and when you do you don't put it down. A book I would like to recommend to those who can't ever find a good book to read is Old Yeller! This book has humor, supspense, and a good sob story. Travis(the main character) has to be the man of the house while his dad is away in Kansas. HE had spent all day working and killing deer for Little Arliss and mama. That night while they were sleeping a dog(Old Yeller) came and ate everything Travis had worked hard for. Travis starts to grow a strong hate for this dog from the moment mama said Little Arliss could keep him, from the time he ate his meat to the point where this filthy dog is swimming in his drinking water, but when Old Yeller save his life from a sworm of anger hogs he develops a sense of trust and liking. This book is very heartwarming and it teachs you to respect the little things in life and don't bypass a good opportunity in life. Also you will learn to live life to the fullest because it won't come around again!

I feel like we take things too seriously, others too light. In the book Unwind, I learned about a plot line that sent the reader into a futuristic story mainly fit for adults. Kids in this future are sometimes “unwound”, which is a process that takes kids aged 13 to 18 and unravels them until they are no more, but still somehow alive. When three kids are all differently condemned to the same fate, they are brought together through an unlikely process and ensue a path that is well beaten but all new. They all eventually make it to the Graveyard; safe haven for runaway unwinds, and are safe for a little while. After a medical condition brings the leader back to civilization and then two are caught and are almost unwound, but the third kid saves them. This is a book that I think everyone to read.
I recently read a book that captured all of my attention. THe book was called Boyproof. Egg is a very memorable charecter. All the while I was reading this book I did not want to put it down and get back to reality. Egg's world was just to much fun! The pages that I had read of the book grew thicker and I noticed the pages yet to read grew smaller. It saddened me. When the book was finally over. I continued the story in my mind as well as palyed it over in my head. I could not hide it though. Some people read books because they have to. SOme read them for insight and facts. I personally read for fun! Somemight say that reading can't possibly be fun, but what could possibly be more exciting than being taken to another world and experiencing adventures only from your wildest dreams all from the safety and comfort of your own home... or school... or whereever you are. I would give Boyproof 5 stars for taking me away for a day and making me sad it was over.
i learned that sports books can be ok rater than them being full of bad plots

One of my favorite books all year has been ship breaker. It is a great story about how underprivliged kids with no money and little chance have for a good future find a ship full of gold silver and treasures. However the owner of the gold is not forever gone do they take the treasure or save the girl what do they do ? what would u do? read the book to find out.
Sometimes in life everyone gets bored even the a teenage girl(Nora grey) in hush hush. But when a mysterious new boy(patch) comes into her life she doesn't know what to do. The patch is nothing like her,he is dark drives a motorcycle and always hangs out at this bar. However she is strangly attracted to him. But things so get scary when she has a feeling that someone is watching her, however thats could just be paranoia. Then when someone jumps in front of her car her best friend is mugged and her bedroom is brokin into she is convinced that someone is out to kill her. What she doesn't know though is if it's Patch who seems like the perfect colperate or is he really there to help her like he says. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who is in need of a good suspense.
I've read lots of books this year, but one of them that really made me change the way I think was Thirteen Reasons Why. It is kind of a depressing book about a girl named Hannah who kills herself and leaves behind thirteen different cassette tapes addressing thirteen different people that are the reason she made herself commit suicide. After the first person was given the tapes, they pass it on to the person Hannah talked about in the next tape, and so on. As the tapes go on, all of the people start to intertwine and the things they did to her get worse and worse. Well then, a boy named Clay is the last one to receive the tapes and he can’t figure out what he did to make Hannah kill herself. He goes through all of these things and starts to visit the places Hannah talks about while he is listening to the tapes. Anyway … I won’t give away the rest of the story but as the book goes on, Clay starts to discover what really went on in her life. It is suspenseful but also has a good message too. This is a really good book and it isn’t super difficult to read either. It is also being turning it into a movie soon, I can’t wait! Take my advice and read this book!!!!!!
Before this year i was one of those people who wouldnt read a book if you paid me $50, but all that changed once i saw the A.I.R. award. i realy wanted to go for it, so i started withthe hardest section for me, sports. Once i picked out a short one i picked it up and started reading it. Now to understand how this changed me you need to hear my perspective on sport books. I always thought that sport books had no plot or were any good for that matter. Once i picked up "The Fighting Tackle" i couldnt put it down. After i finished it i saw that sport books could be alright. Soon after i finished the award, i kept reading. Now im working on a book my self.

One book that I read that really changed my life is the book So B. It. It changed my life because it gives me a new perspective on my surroundings and loved ones. Heidi's mom can only say 23 words, one of which is soof. Heidi doesn't know what it means until she finds a undeveloped camera in the back of her closet and she begins her quest to New York City. The pictures lead Heidi to Hill Top(a home for the mentally disabled) in New York. When she gets there she encounters Elliot who is mentally disabled and he says her momma's word, soof. Thurman Hill(the owner of Hill Top) doesn't want to know anything about Heidi. But Why? What does soof mean? So B. It changed my life because I relized how fourtunate I am to understand my parents. Poor Heidi can only live her life hearing her mom say 23 words, out of the 23, 0 of them are love. If you are ever bored just pick up So B. It, it is an outstanding book!
I wasn’t too excited to read all of these different types of genres at the beginning of this award, but I really ended up enjoying the various styles of literature in the end. I realized I liked adventure and mystery books. The most important thing I learned was that I enjoy the old English style of writing. This will help me pick out books later. The book which opened my eyes to this style was A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. This book was extraordinary and was filled with the old English language. This is how the Award In Reading has helped me learn more about myself and the types of literature I like to read.
For me, reading has always been an easy thing to do. I have read many books but not one book touched me as much as The Time Travelers Wife. In this book, Henry, the time traveler, vanishes into a different time. Many times he vanishes into the past or future of important times of his life. It is hard for his wife, Clare, to go on with her life always wondering and thinking about Henry. No matter what, she always stuck with him and gave him the support and love he needed. Although this book was science fiction, it seemed so real to me. It is now my favorite book and everyone should read it!
A good book is different for everybody. For some, it might be a mystery book full of suspense. For others, it may be humor, horror, science fiction, etc. For me, a good book has to involve an adventure. One of my favorite books of all time is a book called Death by Denim. It looks like a frightening book from the title, but it's not the least bit scary. Like they say, don't judge a book by its cover. The story is about a young girl named Aphra who is undercover. Aphra Connolly and her mom are in the CIA and have criminal masterminds chasing after them. After seeing a CIA agent floating in the river tied up in denim with a note stuffed in his mouth, Aphra realizes her friend, Seth Mulo, is in great danger. Aphra soon finds herself in a journey throughout France looking for Seth and his family and catching the criminal masterminds. This book is a great story that includes trust, adventure, and mystery. Will Aphra save Seth and catch the bad guys? You will have to read Death by Denim to find out!

To everybody books are different. Me I love books, once I start one I can't stop. Every once in awhile, I pick up a book I don't get, somebody else might really like this book, but it doesn't mean anything to mean. it's all about what we like. I like realistic fiction, one of my favorite realistic fiction book was KISSING SNOWFLAKES. I absolutely love this book. Its asbout a girl whoose parents get a divorce and then her dad gets remarried to miss perfect. She ends up going on their honeymoon to the mountains, during winter break. She meets a bunch of boys, rfalls down a mountain, gos cross country skiing, and falls in lve. This book shows me that theres a bright side to everything, and there is a reason for everything. So now thats what I do. The book is about 150 pages, and once I started it, I couldn't put it down. I recomend this book to girls if your looking for some winter romance.
I love to read but one book that changed my life was the Ryan White Story. It's a true story about a boy diagnosed with AIDS and before he transfered schools was badly bullied just because he was diffrent. Even though he had a non curable he still looked on the brightside of life. Even along the way met Micheal Jackson. Sadly though he died of AIDS but not without living life. This book changed my life because it showed me that even though you may be in the worst position in life there still is a positive point of view.
When Mrs. Gundrum told me about this reading activity i thought it would just be a waste of my time. But after a few books from different genres i realized it was kind of fun. And it wasnt that hard, u just have to read a book and then explain it to Mrs. Gundrum. I'm glad i did this :)

When you see the book “Slob”, you might think it will be a humorous book with no moral. This book, however, changed the way I looked at others. The main character, Owen, is an extremely smart, and extremely fat, twelve-year-old. Despite his differences, he is actually funny and caring. His enemy, Mason Ragg, is a smart, kind boy who simply has the wrong rumors going around about him. He is seen by most as dangerous and possibly criminal. When Owen discovers the truth about him though, he becomes his friend. If I saw people like those two in real life, I probably would have stayed away, but who knows? They could be great people, like Mason and Owen.
I have never been the person that wants to read as many books as he can in a year. I have never gotten a reading award and A.I.R was my chance. I thought it was going to be a pain to read fifteen books in a year but it was not that hard. If you find a gook book, you do not want to put it down. One book that I especially enjoyed was the Christmas Carol. I enjoyed all of the emotion and I could picture what was happening throughout the book. This book changed a part inside me. It taught me that everyone has good inside them no matter how many layers you have to peel of to expose it. Everyone can change and you should give everyone a chance.
To some, books are just words on pages, or words that they have to read for Homework. But through this program I have learned that its not just words on pages, and that behind each book, there is a life lesson. A book that I have read this year that has truly changed me as a person is Fahrenheit 451. This book has changed me because it showed me how the world would be without books, and how books help people, whether its because of a tough time or just because they are bored! The world would not be the same because, if there were not books, everyone would know the same things, and no one would be different. Through this book, I have learned why we have books, and why it is encouraged by many to write and read books. Truly, before this year, I never enjoyed books, but once I began this program, it has changed me as a person (and my grades)! I would recommend this book to anyone! Read it sometime, you'll like it, I guarantee it!

When I picked up the book, "Wish Me Luck," it was the cover that got me interested. It was a picture of a ship and a man waving goodbye. I read the back, and it took place during WWII. It was a really great book about a boy and his sister that has to leave their mom and dad to go to Canada where it is safe from the war. It got me to thinking that people now are very lucky that we're not in so much danger that we have to separate from our families. I really like this book because of the fact that the this event actually occured to people back then.

I have always loved reading books, but not all books appeal to me like Fairest did. Fairest is about a young girl named Aza, who is not attractive and has very low confidence. She gets the opportunity to go to the kingdom, and meet the king and soon to be queen. There the queen finds out Aza has the gift to illuse voices, and blackmails her to illuse her voice or else her family will perish. This book is very inspirational because a girl that feels lowly about herself, finds out true beauty is found within your body, not on the outside. I would definitely recommend you to read Fairest.

A few weeks ago,I read this book,A child called it,by:David Pelzer. It is a biography written about when he was younger. It was considered one of the worst abuse cases in California.I cried at parts of this book because no one should be treated this way. Everyone should at some point read this book because they need to become aware of child abuse.
I recently read the graphic novel American Born Chinese by Gene Yang. I loved it. The graphic novel binds together three very different stories. Set mainly in the U.S. in the 1980s and 1990s, it features Jin, a Chinese American who struggles to fit in among the mainly white students in his school, the Monkey King, a monkey in Chinese legend skilled in kung fu who grapples with unacceptance by other Chinese deities, and Danny, a popular white American at his school whose life is about to be ruined again by his Chinese cousin Chin-Kee, the ultimate negative Chinese stereotype. While seemingly unconnected, the ending of the graphic novel ties together all three stories in a shocking way. I enjoyed the novel because it accurately depicts the characters' struggles. Jin has to deal with racism and his parents expecting to focus academically. The Monkey King is laughed at by other spirits for being rejected from a party for not wearing shoes. Danny is seen by his peers as the cousin of a Chinese who speaks with an accent, is loud, and really smart. Personally, I also like the graphic novel for featuring the Transformers, a franchise I like, and a Taiwanese guy, because I am of Taiwanese descent. Although it is a single publication and not part of a series, I highly recommend American Born Chinese to all readers.
The book Out of My Mind has truly changed my life in many different ways. In this book,a 10 year old girl named Meldody has some disabilities. Melody has never said a single word in her whole life and she can't walk. She is very smart for her age but no one really knows that. I learned that everyone is different in their own way and you need to treat them with respect.
