Hi
It's a beautiful sunny day. I hope you go outside and enjoy the sunshine!
Make sure you type in your first name (and only your first name) and click on "Publish". I have three book reviews, but they are anonymous, so I can't let them go through. If you do not see your booktalks, send me an e-mail!! Click here to e-mail me.

Spring Break
Happy Spring Break! I just read 6 wonderful book reviews. Good for you to keep on reading and writing.
We just got The Buddha's diamonds by Carolyn Marsden. This is one great book!
This is a review from a magazine called Booklist:
Grades 3-5. Ten-year-old Tinh spends his days fishing with his father in their beautiful new boat. Then a horrible storm breaks, and although Tinh and his family survive, the furious weather leaves devastation, and Tinh struggles to help his family in the storm’s aftermath. The story is based on a pivotal childhood experience for coauthor Niem, who is now a Buddhist monk, and the overt Buddhist messages are balanced by moving, if purposeful, scenes of a child finding faith. The authors’ detailed descriptions of daily life give a strong sense of Tinh’s culture and what poverty means in the developing world, while Tinh’s poignant struggles to please his parents and use good judgment will feel familiar to many readers. A glossary of Vietnamese words and a final note about Buddhism and the Vietnam War close this unique title.

Hachiko Waits
by Leslea Newman
c. 2004
Historical Fiction
Hachiko (Hachi) is an Akita puppy who lives with his owner, Professor Ueno in Japan. The Professor leaves every morning on the train from the busy Shibuya Train Station and returns at 3:00 every afternoon. Hachiko walks with his master to the train station, then runs home by himself and returns every afternoon 5 minutes before the train arrives! He is a very smart puppy. But, one day, the Professor doesn't get off the train at 3:00. What happened? What will Hachi do? I loved this book and think you will too!
